Essay #2

1. Title: The Use of Landmines by Alejandra Galindo
2. The approach the author used in the intro paragraph is Descriptive
3. Thesis statement : Antipersonnel landmines do not recognize a cease fire; they continue killing or maiming for many years after the conflict is over.
4. I believe the intro was effective because it was explaining how antipersonnel landmines kill innoncent civilians even after the conflict is over. Antipersonnel landmines were supposed to be used for the war to kill the terrorist and enemies. But instead even years after the conflict was over it is killing innoncent people, terrorizing civilians and transforming agricultual fields into killing fields. And de-mining is a very slow and very slow and very expensive process. Landminds make it very difficult for people to go back to their home cities and villiages.
5. The conclusion it used the method of called to action.
6. The conclusion was effective to me because it explains how we should ban landmines because it makes the recovery process for countries that have suffered a war in their own land extremely difficult to cope with. It is also a very expensive thing to try to remove the landmines putting a econmic burden. It also talks about how the US should sign the Mine Ban Treaty now instead of waiting for more advance weapon technology. They should consider about the civilians as well because they are the ones that are suffering these mines even after the conflict is now over. Innocent people are dying because of this.
